If you run a business, you've probably felt it. You know you should be posting on social media. You know your customers are scrolling past your competitors every day. But between running the business itself, answering emails, and everything else on your plate, content keeps sliding to the bottom of the list.

You're not alone. Most small and medium businesses want to post more, but very few have the time, skill, or equipment to do it well and keep doing it. That's exactly the gap content creation fills.

What is content creation in social media?

In simple terms, content creation is the process of planning, filming, editing, and publishing photos and videos that represent your business online. It covers things like:

  • Short-form videos for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
  • Behind-the-scenes clips showing how your business works
  • Product or service demonstrations
  • Photography for your website and social profiles
  • Longer videos for YouTube or your website

The goal isn't just to post something. It's to post content that actually does a job, whether that's building trust with new customers, answering questions people already have, or simply keeping your business visible and top of mind.

Why businesses find content creation so difficult

This isn't a lack of ideas. Most business owners know roughly what they'd like to show people. The problem is capacity.

Time. Filming, editing, and posting well takes hours, even for a single short video. When you're already running the day-to-day of a business, that time simply isn't there.

Skill and equipment. Good lighting, steady footage, and clean editing all take experience. A video filmed quickly on a phone between jobs often does more to hurt a brand's image than help it.

Consistency. One good video posted once doesn't move the needle. Social media and search platforms both reward businesses that show up regularly, and keeping that pace up alongside a full workload is genuinely hard.

Knowing what to actually post. Many business owners aren't short on content ideas, they're short on a plan. Random posting without a strategy behind it rarely brings in results.

This is why more businesses are turning to a dedicated content creation agency  or creative partner rather than trying to fit it in themselves.

What a solo content creation agency actually does

I work as a one-person content creation agency, handling video and photography for businesses across Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, cambridgeshire, northamptonshire, and further afield like London. Being solo means you work directly with the person filming, editing, and delivering your content, rather than being passed between account managers.

I typically work with businesses in two ways:

  • One-off video projects, built around a specific goal, such as a new website video or a campaign for a launch.
  • Ongoing content pools, where I capture a batch of footage and photography in a single session, then edit it down into a month or more of ready-to-post content. This suits businesses who want a steady social media presence without needing to think about filming every week.

Either way, the aim is the same: content that looks professional, fits your brand, and is built around what your business actually needs, not just content for the sake of posting.

Local content creation, done properly

Being based in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, I work with businesses across the local area as well as clients further afield who need on-site filming. Local businesses often benefit the most from professional content, because trust and visibility within your own community can be the difference between a customer choosing you or a competitor. Well-made local content also tends to perform better in local search results, helping your business show up when people nearby are looking for what you offer.

Is content creation right for your business?

If any of this sounds familiar, professional content creation is likely worth exploring:

  • You know you should be posting more, but never have time
  • Your current content doesn't reflect how good your business actually is
  • You've tried filming things yourself and it hasn't stuck
  • You want a steady stream of content without managing it week to week

The bottom line

Video content genuinely improves SEO rankings, but only when it's built properly. A real video, paired with a dedicated, well-structured page, does two jobs at once. It keeps people engaged, and it gives search engines and AI tools exactly what they need to trust and rank your content.

Skip the shortcuts. Skip the fully AI-generated unauthentic version of you. The businesses seeing real jumps in traffic, like the 20% new visitor increase we've seen with our own clients, are the ones putting real effort and real people in front of the camera.

Frequently Asked Questions

People often confuse these roles.

Social Media Managers:

  • Manage your social media accounts
  • Set marketing goals and content upload schedules
  • Deal with replying to comments, answer messages and try to build a connection with followers

Content Creators:

  • Create media you to use on your social platforms
  • Most of the time they use mobile phones for filming, and focus on trends and shareable ideas

Videographers:

  • Operate high quality cameras and produce much more professional looking footage
  • Create high quality media for a variety of uses cases, such as social media, websites, brand visuals, ad's and more
  • Often only handle filming, nothing else like directing, editing, colour grading

On higher end budgets, videographers typically only focus on operating the camera amongst a larger production team who each take care of a specific task related to filming.

Many businesses struggle with finding the in between space of an expensive production, and frequent content to keep their social media alive which is where I help a lot of businesses.

There's no one answer fits all, however there are general guidelines that can help:

  • Post 3-5 times per week if you can across your social platforms
  • Quality beats quantity
  • Don't just post reels - take advantage of stories and carousel posts also
  • You can repost your own reel or post yourself once. Do this a few days later to show it to more people
  • If you don't have the budget to film high end productions constantly, start building a content pool
  • Use trial reels on Instagram to test what's working with your audience

In my experience of testing numerous AI models and reading what real people constantly say about AI content, I would say not if you can avoid it.

While some expensive models can produce reasonable results, it is in the end fake. People on social platforms constantly complain about it, and overall it seems it drastically changes peoples opinion of your business for the worse.

On top of that, it's very easy to spend many hours trying to create something and end up with nothing useable in the end.
