Does Video Content Actually
Improve Your SEO Rankings?

Does Video Content Improve SEO Rankings?
Video does exactly that. Add a well-made video to a proper supporting page, and you're giving both users and Google what they want.
We've seen it first-hand. One of our regular clients added question-based video content, paired with dedicated pages for each topic. New visitor traffic jumped by 20% in a single month.
Why does Google favour pages with video?
Wistia analysed half a million page sessions and found pages with video hold an average dwell time of around 6 minutes, compared to 2.5 minutes for text-only pages. Google watches this closely. Longer dwell time signals your content is genuinely useful, not just padding.
There's more behind it too:
Aberdeen Group tracked 500 business websites over a year and found sites that added video saw 41% more organic traffic than those that didn't.
A wider meta-analysis of case studies found video content drives a 157% increase in organic traffic from search results, with the strongest gains coming from long-form educational content.
Videos now show up in 62% of Google search results pages, meaning a video-optimised page has a genuine shot at extra visibility that text alone can't reach.

This lines up exactly with what we've seen with our own clients. Take the informational, question-based videos we've built recently. We take the video, pull out the key information, and build it into a dedicated page around that one topic
It's not padding a page with fluff. It's giving people (and Google) a proper, useful answer.
What about AI search? Does video still matter there?
That's not a reason to ignore video. It's the opposite.
AI tools pull from content that's clearly structured, genuinely informative, and easy to lift a straight answer from. A video that explains something properly, paired with a page written the same way, is exactly the kind of source these tools like to cite.
So whilst fewer people might click through, the ones who do land on your page arrive already trusting you as the expert. That's a much stronger visitor than one who's just skimming ten blue links.
When people start to see your content being recommended regularily, it builds familiarity, trust, and expertise which can translate into new clients and opportunities.

Is there a downside to using video and AI content together?
Yes, and it's worth being honest about. There's a real danger when businesses lean on AI for everything, including the videos themselves.
People can tell. Scroll through any social platform and look at the comments under obviously AI-generated content. It doesn't land well.
People buy from people. Nobody builds trust with a business that feels hollow or fake. AI is brilliant for quick answers and information. It's a poor substitute for content that's meant to represent you and your business.
The businesses winning right now are doing both well:
- Real, human-made video that shows an actual person, actual expertise, actual craft.
- A properly structured page underneath it, so both users and search engines can find and use that information easily.
Skip the first part and lean entirely on AI, and you risk becoming forgettable. Or worse, actively distrusted.
How do I actually turn a video into an SEO-friendly page?
The process itself is fairly simple, even if getting it right takes some care:
- Start with a real question your audience is asking. Not a generic topic, an actual question people type into Google.
- Answer it properly on camera. Keep it genuine and useful, not scripted corporate fluff.
- Build a dedicated page around that one topic. Pull the key points from the video into clear, scannable written content.
- Structure it properly. Use a clear heading that matches the question, answer it straight away, then expand with detail underneath.
- Add the video itself to the page, ideally with a transcript. YouTube data shows videos with transcripts rank higher for around 95% of their target keywords, since it gives search engines far more context to work with
That last point matters more than people realise. A transcript isn't just an accessibility nice-to-have. It's practically handing Google and AI search tools the answer on a plate.
If this all sounds a bit confusing, I can offer you guidance on this.
Does location matter for this kind of content?
I'm based here in Bedfordshire, and a good chunk of my work involves shooting locally, whether that's a commercial job just down the road or a brand story filmed somewhere in the surrounding home counties. But I often travel further afield.
Whether I'm filming locally in Bedfordshire or packing up the gear for a shoot elsewhere in the UK, the same principle applies. Good video, paired with a properly built page, works the same way for a Bedfordshire-based client as it does for one on the other side of the country.
The bottom line
Skip the shortcuts. Skip the fully AI-generated version of you. The businesses seeing real jumps in traffic, like the 20% new visitor increase we've seen with our own clients, are the ones putting real effort and real people in front of the camera.
